(Belgium)
Casimir designs objects full of some unexplainable magnetism. You can’t but notice them: they attract your eyes somehow. They are not as cold as they seem. They enchant and absorb. They have some medieval power – the one of Flemish, Burgundy, and Gaelic traditions. Their beauty is about severity and simplicity, not politeness and extravagance.
The collection presented at DESIGN ACT 2008 was based on presupposition that the industrial space is a totality of compromises, not an expression of designer’s personal emotions or vision. This collection undresses the very essence of furniture, its mission; also, it’s very semiotic. Casimir is one of those few designers using the language of symbols and signs. Heavy, solid, ling-standing and clear materials make his furniture useful and eternal.
